Plan product codes, reservations and stock reconciliation. Practical guidance for store and warehouse projects.
Use a unique product identifier
A product needs a stable identifier across the shop, warehouse and supplier. Product names alone are not enough: sizes, colors and packaging units may be maintained differently. Agree which system owns the product master data and how changes propagate.
Separate stock from reservations
An incoming order is not the same as dispatched goods. Decide when stock is reserved, reduced and released after cancellation. Account for returns and manual corrections. Available quantity should be traceable to those movements.
Make failures visible
Integrations need logs and a visible failure queue. Repeating a message must not produce a second transaction. Test retries, delayed responses and partial imports before launch. Assign responsibility for investigating differences and define what data permits safe reprocessing.
